The Philadelphia 76ers-New York Knicks series is bringing out the best and the worst of Philly sports fans at the same time The latter side came into the picture recently when some Philadelphia fans did not take too kindly a post on X (the social media platform formerly known as Twitter) by the Villanova Wildcats basketball team congratulating Josh Hart, Jalen Brunson, and Donte DiVincenzo for leading the charge in the New York Knicks‘ Game 2 104-101 win over the Philadelphia 76ers in the Big Apple.
The post reads:
Our guys @jalenbrunson1 and @Divincenzo with two HUGE 3s to seal the Win in Game 2😤
@jalenbrunson1 24 pts | 8 reb | 6 ast
@Divincenzo 19 pts | 4 reb
@joshhart 21 pts | 15 reb
New York Knicks Star Josh Hard Reacts to Philly Fans’ Behavior
Hart noticed the bitter reactions Philadelphia supporters have towards the Pennsylvania school giving a shoutout to its former basketball stars and spoke truthfully about it.
“We have Villanova in our blood,” Hart said (h/t Mike Vaccaro of the New York Post). “We have a bond that goes deeper, it’s where we’re from, it’s a bond that goes beyond. For Philly fans to be mad about that … that’s idiotic. To me that’s who we are. We’re a family, we play for the guys who came before us. I don’t care about it. Whether they like it or not Villanova is in our blood.”
Hart spoke about it on Wednesday.
Why? That’s so stupid. Villanova’s in our blood, bro,” Hart said during practice ahead of Game 3 in Philadelphia. “That’s a bond that goes deeper than where you’re from or who you’re rooting for or whatever. Like, we have a bond there that goes beyond basketball, that goes beyond any of that stuff.
Perhaps Hart and the Knicks better have to expect an even wilder Philly crowd this Thursday when they play their first road game of this intense first-round series, especially with the 76ers desperate to avoid falling down a 0-3 hole.
