Back in December, women’s basketball legend Becky Hammon voiced her opinion about New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson not being a top-tier player in the NBA. After facing quite a backlash, especially from Knicks fans, the Las Vegas Aces head coach tried to clarify her statement, saying that while she believes that Brunson is a great player, she still can’t put him on the same level
“You gotta have a dude, you gotta have a 1A dude, and they are missing that at the end of the day if we’re just getting down to brass taxes,” Hammon said at the time.
Fans Bring Up Becky Hammon’s Claim on New York Knicks Star Jalen Brunson
Well, after Brunson torched the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 4 of the Knicks-Sixers first-round series in the 2024 NBA Playoffs, Hammon’s initial take on the former Villanova star was brought back to life by some people who were looking to prove her wrong — again.
“Yo Becky Hammon… You were saying?,” said X (the social media platform previously called Twitter) user @itwascobra said.
“Brunson is not a dude. The dude is Brunson,” commented @johnny_rosado.
“Completely missed why Brunson was going to be a great addition to the Knicks: he wanted to be here, and he wanted the ball. He knew he could never play 2nd fiddle to Luka and be great. So he smartly decided to go where the rock was his. She could not see that in him,” voiced out @hotoddy.
In the Knicks’ 97-92 win over the Sixers, Brunson went nuclear for 47 points with 10 assists, while shooting 18/34 from the field. He was just 2/8 from the 3-point region, but Brunson nearly got everything he wanted when inside the arc.
So far in the playoffs, Brunson is averaging 33.0 points, 9.0 assists, and 5.3 rebounds through four games.
