Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid has finally come back after a long absence from the action, but his return isn’t the only thing why he’s grabbed the headlines of late.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Embiid has also inked a contract with Skechers.
76ers star Joel Embiid has signed a multiyear endorsement contract with Skechers to become the face of the company’s basketball division, sources tell me and @MikeVorkunov. Embiid is back in action after two months and now officially has new shoe deal.
Embiid is indeed a high-profile star acquisition for the Skechers brand that is trying to establish a bigger presence in a hoops-driven market. Nike, Adidas, the Jordan Brand, and Under Armour are some of the titans Skechers are competing with and the company is hoping that Embiid helps gain a bigger piece of the pie in the sneaker business world.
Philadelphia 76ers Should Benefit From Joel Embiid’s Return
Embiid, who had not played since suffering a knee injury in January versus the Golden State Warriors, finally made his return to action Tuesday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Embiid started right away, scattering 24 points on 6/14 shooting from the field and posting a perfect 12/12 line from the charity stripe in 29 minutes. He also secured six rebounds and recorded seven assists plus three steals. He still looked a little rusty, having turned the ball over six times and committing four personal fouls, but the Sixers will take it.
The reigning NBA Most Valuable Player should get better as he continues to get his legs back following such a lengthy absence.
