While many expected the Phoenix Suns to get the easy win over the San Antonio Spurs, the opposite happened just recently. All-Star guard Devin Booker has some insight how this happened, even after his team held a 25-point lead at one point of the game.
After getting a massive 131-106 win against San Antonio over the weekend, the Suns have lost to them in a close 104-102 game. In this contest, though, Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama didn’t suit up for his team due to a sprained ankle.
The Suns saw Booker lead the way with 36 points, six rebounds, and four assists in almost 40 minutes on the court. Kevin Durant added 29 points on 70 percent shooting from the field and 66 percent from deep, while adding eight rebounds and six assists.
San Antonio, on the other hand, had a big night from Jeremy Sochan and Devin Vassell when they both dropped 26 points. Zach Collins contributed 18 points, five rebounds, and three assists to help the Spurs get the win against Phoenix.
Devin Booker Shares Reason Why Phoenix Suns Lost To a Victor Wembanyama-less San Antonio Spurs Team
After the game, the Suns’ All-Star guard spoke to reporters and shared his thoughts on why Phoenix lost to the Spurs. In a video posted by Duane Rankin on X:
“I’m not into disrespecting opponents. These guys are NBA guys. They have some talented young players.”

Booker’s reaction to the loss somehow validates San Antonio as a promising team with talented pieces in its roster. Even without leading Rookie of the Year-candidate Wembanyama on the floor, the Spurs were able to defeat a Phoenix team filled with superstars.
With the regular season coming to an end soon, every game is a must-win for Booker and the Suns. Otherwise, they would end up as disappointments after assembling a roster full of All-Star talent.
