There was an expectation at the start of the season for the core of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal to take the Phoenix Suns to the next level. But after a loss to a San Antonio Spurs team without Victor Wembanyama, the two-time MVP aired his frustration to the media.
In that particular game, the Suns fell to San Antonio in a close 104-102 loss. Both Devin Vassell and Jeremy Sochan posted 26 points to lead the Spurs without Wembanyama, their number one pick in the draft and inarguably, the best player on their roster.
Phoenix, on the other hand, saw Booker tally a game-high 36 points on 50 percent shooting from the field, six rebounds, and four assists. Durant came in next with 29 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Royce O’Neal came off the bench to add 12 points, the only other Suns player to score in double-digits along with Durant and Booker.
The loss loosened Phoenix’s hold on the sixth seed with a record of 42-29, putting them closer to the Sacramento Kings by one game below them. Even with the win, the Spurs are still last in the Western Conference with 16 wins and 56 losses.
Kevin Durant Speaks Out After Phoenix Suns’ Ugly Loss To San Antonio Spurs
After the game, Suns star Kevin Durant spoke to the media and aired his frustration over San Antonio’s recent win. In a video posted by Duane Rankin on X:
“Unacceptable. Shouldn’t lose that game, especially after how we beat them last game.”

Just last Saturday, the Suns got a 131-106 win against a San Antonio team with Wembanyama in it. This game, though, the Spurs rookie was officially placed on the injury list after spraining his left ankle.
The loss is a tough one for Phoenix, a team with aspirations to win it all in the postseason. With the regular season coming to an end, every game is a crucial one for Durant and the Suns.
