Team USA is starting to prepare for the 2024 Paris Olympics which will be held from July to August. The mission is clear for the Americans, and it’s to stand on top of the podium and take home another gold — just like they did three years ago in Tokyo.
Team USA has already released the names of the superstars committed to represent the country on the court in France, including the likes of LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns, Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers, Bam Adebayo of the Miami Heat, and Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors.
Cooper Flagg to be Part of Team USA?
For Austin Rivers, who last suited up in the NBA for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Duke Blue Devils recruit and potential No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft Cooper Flagg should be part of the team as the 12th man (h/t Adam Zagoria of Forbes Sports).
“Grab Cooper Flagg, hell, make him the 12th guy,” Rivers said Tuesday on ESPN’s “NBA Today,” pointing out that Christian Laettner and Anthony Davis both played for Team USA as college players.
“The experience it would give him. You’re talking about grooming players for tomorrow and what that experience would do for these young talented players, especially in a draft class where you don’t have a lot of star power. Throw the biggest star in there, throw Cooper Flagg in there, it makes sense.
In the event that Flagg makes it to Team USA’s roster, that should only increase the hype on the incoming college freshman. However, he’s unlikely to be part of the United States’ regular rotation if he somehow finds a way to sneak into the team with all the professionals around him.
Nevertheless, a trip to the Olympics with many of the world’s best players would be quite an experience for Flagg.
