Team USA‘s path to redemption has been determined. The national team will be looking to make amends for their embarrassing fourth-place finish in the 2023 FIBA World Cup by bringing home the gold medal in the upcoming 2024 Olympics in Paris.
The Americans, however, will need to go through Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic and Serbia before they progress to the latter stages of the highly-anticipated tournament.
Team USA Drawn in Group C With Serbia
The draw for the group stage of the Olympic tournament was held on Tuesday in Switzerland. Team USA, who will be coached by Golden State Warriors shot-caller Steve Kerr, was among the eight teams that had already qualified for the first phase of the competition and the said teams have now been assigned to three separate groups.
For their part, USA has been drawn into Group C along with Serbia, and South Sudan. The fourth and final spot in the group will be determined by an Olympic qualifying tournament in Puerto Rico in July. The six teams that will be competing for the said spot will be Puerto Rico, Bahrain, Ivory Coast, Italy, Lithuania, and Mexico.
Group A, on the other hand, features Australia and Canada. The two other spots in the group are still up for grabs, with teams such as Greece, Slovenia, and Spain, among others, vying for their place in the tournament.
France, Germany, and Japan are all in Group B, with teams such as Brazil, Latvia, and the Philippines all competing for the fourth and final spot.
Reigning NBA Finals MVP Nikola Jokic will be looking to lead his squad to glory. He will be facing familiar foes when Serbia and USA battle it out on the court in Group C.
The Americans, who will be led by the likes of LeBron James and Stephen Curry, remain the heavy favorites to go all the way in the tournament.
