Just recently, Kyrie Irving cooked the Denver Nuggets when the All-Star guard sunk a game-winning hook shot for the Dallas Mavericks. Shortly after, Nikola Jokic shared why he wasn’t surprised about the one-time NBA champion’s game-winner.
In the dying seconds of that game, Maxi Kleber passed the ball to Irving. Jokic, meanwhile, found himself guarding the All-Star point guard. Right before the clock ended, the Mavericks star let a wild hook shot using his left hand go.
The end result is a 107-105 win for the Mavs against the defending champions. Irving ended the night with24 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists. Doncic, meanwhile, led Dallas with 37 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists.
On the other hand, Nikola Jokic had a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Nuggets. Jamal Murray led Mile High City with 23 points, four rebounds, and seven assists. This loss has left Denver in a tie with Oklahoma City Thunder for the first seed in the Western Conference. The Mavs are in eight place with a record of 38 wins and 29 losses.
Denver Nuggets Star Nikola Jokic Shares Why He Was Not Surprised By Kyrie Irving’s Game-Winning Shot
After the game, the two-time MVP shared his thoughts on Irving’s game-winning shot for the Mavericks. In a tweet shared by Grant Afseth on X:
Nikola Jokic on Kyrie Irving’s game-winner: “Yeah, it was the same action that they have run before in the game, with the continuation of Kyrie coming from the corner. I mean Kyrie made a really tough shot. If anyone could make that shot, it was him. I was surprised, but also kind of not. He can make that shot for sure,” Afseth posted.
Jokic’s reaction just shows how talented Irving is to actually pull that kind of shot off. Of course, that’s not surprising for one of the best offensive players in the NBA this season.
With the playoffs coming near, this matchup between Dallas and Denver is a preview of what might come soon. If Irving’s performance is any indication, the Nuggets will surely have their hands full in the postseason.
