Toronto Raptors power forward Jontay Porter could be in the midst of a real pickle. The 24-year-old has reportedly been dropped from the lineup as of Monday after the NBA launched a full-blown investigation on Porter’s alleged involvement in prop betting.
This is obviously a major accusation, which could land the 6-foot-11 big man in some serious legal trouble if he is found guilty.
NBA Launches Investigation on Toronto Raptors Forward Jontay Porter
David Purdum, Brian Windhorst, and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN dropped the bombshell in a recent exposé that could potentially rock the world of sports betting within the NBA:
“Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter is under investigation by the NBA following multiple instances of betting irregularities over the past several months, multiple sources told ESPN on Monday.
“At issue are prop bets involving Porter from games on Jan. 26 and March 20, multiple sources told ESPN. The NBA did not immediately respond to requests for comment,” read the report.
According to the ESPN article, there were at least two days wherein DraftKings Sportsbook reported that Porter’s over/under emerged as the “biggest money winner for bettors of any NBA player props.”
This was during Toronto’s January 26 game against the Los Angeles Clippers, where the over/under on Porter was 5.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 0.5 triples. He exited the game after just four minutes of action due to a supposed eye injury. He went scoreless in that contest while collecting three rebounds and one assist, and all of his under props hit on that day.
There was another disparity on March 20 against the Phoenix Suns, wherein Porter had an over/under of 7.5 points and 5.5 rebounds. In that game, he finished with zero points and two rebounds before leaving the game due to a supposed illness.
Porter, who is the brother of Denver Nuggets star Michael Porter Jr., is currently on a two-way deal with Toronto worth $415,000.
