Indiana Fever rookie and WNBA star Caitlin Clark‘s exclusion from Team USA has been a divisive topic among women’s basketball fans. This prompted Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner to share her thoughts on the matter on why the former Iowa guard didn’t make the cut.
Clark left a lasting impact during her college career, breaking Pete Maravich’s record to become the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer. However, her final year ended on a sour note as the Iowa Hawkeyes fell short in the championship round against the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Despite her accomplishments, Clark’s rookie season with the Indiana Fever has been marred by a string of losses, with opposing teams targeting her on and off the court. Currently, she is averaging 16.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.
Recently, Clark faced disappointment as she was not included in the Women’s Olympic National Team. However, she herself expressed support for Team USA’s pursuit of a gold medal. Moreover, the setback has only fueled her determination to continue working towards her goals.
Although challenges have arisen in her early professional career, Clark’s talent and dedication remain evident. With a strong mindset and unwavering support, she is poised to make a significant impact in the future.
WNBA Star Brittney Griner Shares Her Mind on Caitlin Clark’s Exclusion From Team USA
Although some reports point out to several veterans not wanting the young guard to be included, nothing can be certain about whose decision it is not to have Clark play for Team USA. Griner, for her part, shared her perspective in a video posted by Desert Wave Media on X.

Apart from Griner, the United States will field a team consisting of Diana Taurasi, Sabrina Ionescu, Kahleah Cooper, Alyssa Thomas, Napheesa Collier, Chelsea Gray, Jewell Loyd, Kelsey Plum, Breanna Stewart, A’ja Wilson, and Jackie Young,
This new development to Clark’s first-year in the WNBA has certainly taken another turn. It remains to be seen whether all the negativity will die down or it’ll get worse for the Indiana Fever rookie.
