The Boston Celtics are cruising past the Miami Heat in the first round of the 2024 playoffs. If things continue to play out the way it did over the past couple of games, the Celtics should easily make it to the next round of the playoffs.
However, they hit an unexpected snag as Kristaps Porzingis went down with an injury in Game 4. While this setback won’t likely be something that will have a lasting effect on the team’s playoff hopes, it’s still a major setback that would spell trouble for the team’s postseason hopes if the injury persists throughout the postseason.
Boston Celtics fans give Kristaps Porzingis encouraging messages after Game 4 injury
The 7’2″ big man hobbled off the court as he experienced tightness on his right calf. While fans are still thankful that their starting center didn’t suffer a more serious injury, the fact that he sustained this injury with no one directly impacting him is more than enough to cause concern to the fanbase.
Porzingis had a bright future with the New York Knicks, but his extensive injuries killed off any hopes of him becoming a Hall of Fame big man. The fact that he’s still a serviceable big man for the Celtics despite his injury history is a testament to his skill as a player.
Fans immediately sent him messages of support as he focuses on recovering from the injury, as reported by The Spun’s Andrew Gould:
“Prayers up for Kristaps Porzingis,” Hoop Central wrote.
“Non-contact injury for Porzingis. Hopefully it’s nothing serious,” a fan said.
“Please let this be minor,” a fan wished.
“Gonna be a shame if that Porzingis injury as bad as his body language looked,” a fan said. “Boston gonna need him as they go deeper.”
KP has been a reliable rock for the Boston Celtics this season. He shares the floor with Al Horford as the starting center, averaging 12.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.5 blocks a game. While he’s shooting at a rather inefficient 38.9% from the field, his long-range shooting is at a more respectable 40.0%.
The Celtics roster and fanbase hope that Porzingis will be able to return to the team soon. Meanwhile, the Heat will want to maximize this situation to force a Game 6 at the TD Garden.
