The 2022 NBA Defensive Player of the Year revealed his true feelings about it during a recent interview with Theo Pinson on the Run Your Race podcast.
“I know everybody’s expecting me to be salty and s***, but there’s no hard feelings for them. Don’t get it twisted. It’s definitely tough because I was in the trenches with them, so to not be able to finish what you started with those guys is definitely tough,” Smart admitted.
“But man, s***, my wife will tell you, I was screaming for those guys when they won just as much as anybody else, because I have love for those guys and I know the work that they put in. And I’ve been through it,” he added.

Marcus Smart was the heart and soul of the Boston Celtics for years, and the fans loved him for his hustle and hard work, playing alongside Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. The 30-year-old guard was traded out of town last summer by the Boston Celtics, as they went out and acquired Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday.
Marcus Smart aims to bounce back next season
After departing the Boston Celtics last offseason, Marcus Smart had a rough debut campaign for the Memphis Grizzlies, as injuries blighted him.

There’s a chance he will be traded again this summer, as the Houston Rockets are reportedly big fans of him. Houston will likely have to part with the No. 3 pick in this summer’s draft to get Marcus Smart.
