Bronny James, the eldest son of Los Angeles Lakers superstar and future Basketball Hall of Famer LeBron James, recently declared for the 2024 NBA Draft while also keeping his option open to return to college as a transferee from the USC Trojans.
Bronny’s basketball future is unclear with plenty of things to consider. Among them is whether there is an NBA team out there that will seriously take an honest interest in spending a pick to take him off the board on draft day.
Anonymous NBA GM Doesn’t Hold Back in Assessing Bronny James’ NBA Draft Outlook
At least one NBA executive has already voiced serious doubts about whether Bronny is ready for the big leagues.
Via Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer:
“Bronny is nowhere near ready,” an NBA general manager told The Ringer. “He should go back to school to develop at his own pace or he risks getting lost in the shuffle, whether or not he’s playing with his dad.”
LeBron surely wants to play with Bronny in the NBA, and he does seem to have the power to at least influence his team to draft his son. But Bronny’s readiness for the pros is another story. During his freshman year with the Trojans, Bronny often came off the bench and averaged just 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, while shooting only 36.6 percent from the field and a horrid 26.7 percent from behind the arc.
The raw talent is there for Bronny, but it appears that he’s still far from being considered as a can’t-miss NBA prospect.
