It’s not only WNBA icons who are ecstatic to see Caitlin Clark succeed and bring women’s basketball at the forefront of sports. Even NBA legends such as Muggsy Bogues and Detlef Schrempf couldn’t help but be inspired by what the Iowa Hawkeyes star is doing.
Allen Iverson recently shared a powerful and beautiful message about Clark’s impact in the game of basketball. Now, more and more of his peers are also chiming in.
Muggsy Bogues Compares Iowa Hawkeyes’ Caitlin Clark To Stephen Curry
Clark has been often compared to Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry for her shooting prowess, and Bogues certainly sees the similarities. Much like Curry, Clark is capable of shooting from everywhere on the court.
Nonetheless, that’s not the only thing that stands out from Clark. Bogues couldn’t help but admire the 22-year-old’s confidence and passion, as well as incredible basketball IQ.
For the former NBA point guard, those are the stuff that makes Clark really different.
“Gosh! She’s out there playing like Steph Curry and shooting the ball from wherever on the court. That’s amazing and I’m so proud of her,” Bogues told The Guardian.
“What stands out is her confidence. It’s sky high and she believes in herself and she knows the game. You can see the passion she has for the game and that’s a joy to watch. Her IQ level as a basketball player is off the charts. I compare her to Steph because of the joy she plays with, her shooting ability and the constant movement. It’s the confidence and the shots she makes.”
Sure enough, Bogues couldn’t have said it any better. Clark is such a joy to watch, and the fact that she can back it up with her otherworldly skills only makes things better.
Clark is already the NCAA all-time leading scorer for both men and women, recently breaking Pete Maravich’s record. It would have been impossible for anyone to do that without the incredible scoring skills and sustained dominance that Clark has maintained.
Detlef Schrempf Speaks Out on Caitlin Clark’s Impact
Like Muggsy Bogues, Detlef Schrempf is in awe of Caitlin Clark as well. But more than her on-court accomplishments, the former NBA All-Star and basketball Hall of Famer loves how the Iowa Hawkeyes sharpshooter is making an impact on the sport and inspiring a lot of people.
“Caitlin Clark is not just shattering records but inspiring generations of not just athletes, but all people – female and male. Her passion for the game and dedication to her trade are an honor to witness. Very few players ever have had that kind of impact on the game – on the court and off it,” Schrempf shared.
With Clark as the face of women’s basketball–and college hoops really, be it men and women–there has been an increased attention to the sport. More and more people are watching games, young girls look up to her, and more opportunities for female athletes are created.
True enough, no one can deny how much Clark has changed the game. And luckily for everyone, she is far from being done. With the NCAA Tournament rolling around and the WNBA after that, the story of Clark and how she’s changing the game is only getting started.
