After dismantling Paul George and the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round, the Dallas Mavericks have found themselves in a 0-1 hole against the Oklahoma City Thunder. This prompted All-Star guard Kyrie Irving to assure their fans to stay no matter what.
In Dallas’ first round series against the Clippers, the former stood out as the better team all throughout their showdown. The Mavs shot the ball better, committed fewer turnovers, grabbed more boards, and went to the line more than Los Angeles. The All-Star duo of Irving and Luka Doncic also combined to average 56.3 points per game to lead their team to win the series in six games.
Dallas’ dominant performance was nowhere to be found in their first game against Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder recently. Doncic and Irving’s offense only amounted to 39 points in Game 1, while their bench unit didn’t show up at all. In comparison, OKC fielded a better and more balanced performance on both ends of the court, bolstered by a reliable reserve set of players.
While they lost Game 1 to the Thunder, the Mavericks can still steal the momentum by winning the next couple of games. If they can muster their bench to perform better, and be more physical down the line, there’s no reason Doncic and the Mavs to lose consecutive games.
Dallas Mavericks’ Kyrie Irving Issues 6-Word Promise To Fans After Game 1 Loss To Oklahoma City Thunder
Dallas’ Game 1 loss was something their fans didn’t expect. As a result, Irving sent out a message on his official X account to assure everyone about the coming days ahead.
“Tribe, stay together no matter what,” Irving tweeted.
Irving is no stranger to coming up clutch during the most important moments of the playoffs. With his experience playing for iconic teams, such as the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers, Dallas may have an edge against the Thunder in their series.
It remains to be seen whether other Dallas players are going to step up or Doncic is going to have a monster game to even the series. In any case, expect the Mavericks and their fans to go all out in the coming days.
