The Florida Atlantic Owls are losing one of their best players in program history, with Johnelle Davis making the decision to enter the transfer portal. He is also reportedly expected to declare for the 2024 NBA Draft while keeping his options to return to college open.

Johnelle Davis Leaving the Florida Atlantic Owls
Davis’ departure comes on the heels of Dusty May leaving the program to take a head-coaching job in Ann Arbor with the Michigan Wolverines and follows the Florida Atlantic Owls’ early elimination from the 2024 NCAA Tournament. Davis and the Owls lasted just a round in the Big Dance, as they lost to the Northwestern Wildcats, 77-65 (overtime).
The 22-year-old Davis played four years with the Owls from the 2020-21 season to the 2023-24 college basketball campaign. During his time with the Owls, he averaged 11.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.2 steals across 128 games.
In what turned out to be his final game in Owls uniform, he stuffed the stat sheets with 18 points, six rebounds, two assists, and three steals, though, he also repeatedly shot Florida Atlantic in the foot with nine turnovers. Nevertheless, Davis is surely one of the best ever to don a Florida Atlantic uniform.
Apart from Davis, three other players have left the Owls for the transfer portal since May’s departure, with Vladislav Goldin, Nick Boyd, and Giancarlo Rosado leaving as well.
Will Davis follow May and join the Wolverines? That remains to be seen, but an intriguing possibility nonetheless.
