Andrew Wiggins missed his second straight game for the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night as the Dubs secured a huge win over the New York Knicks, 110-99, at the Madison Square Garden.
Wiggins has not suffered an injury but is currently away with the team dealing with a personal matter. Given his history, however, Warriors fans know that this is an even more concerning situation for the former All-Star as opposed to if he were simply dealing with a knock.
Steve Kerr’s Cryptic Update on Golden State Warriors Star Andrew Wiggins
Dubs head coach Steve Kerr spoke to reporters ahead of Thursday’s contest in New York. The four-time NBA champion shot-caller was asked to provide an update on Wiggins’ status moving forward. Coach Kerr was unable to do so:
“Don’t know,” Kerr said, via Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “We’ll obviously respect Andrew’s wishes for this to remain private. Personal reasons.”
That’s obviously not an optimistic update from the Warriors coach.
Is This Going to Be Another Lengthy Absence for Andrew Wiggins?
The main concern here is that Wiggins also spent a significant time on the sidelines last season with a similar issue. In fact, the former Rookie of the Year ended up missing 25 games for Golden State towards the tail end of the previous campaign.
During that time, the Warriors kept mum on why Wiggins was unavailable, except for stating that the Kansas product was dealing with a personal matter. It remains unclear if this new issue is related to Wiggins’ prolonged absence last season, but fans are hoping that he won’t miss multiple months again this time around.
