The competition for the 2023-24 NBA Most Improved Player is an interesting one. But for Golden State Warriors star Chris Paul, his pick to win it is no other than Chicago Bulls guard Coby White.
Golden State Warriors’ Chris Paul Believes Coby White Should Win The 2023-24 NBA Most Improved Player Award
Paul and White go way back. White was part of CP3’s AAU team. In addition to that, they were both born and raised in North Carolina. Paul played college hoops with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, while White starred for the North Carolina Tar Heels. The connection has always been there between the two guards
“He better get it,” the future Basketball Hall of Famer said about White’s Most Improved Player outlook following the Golden State Warriors 125-122 loss to White and the Bulls at home on Mar. 7 (h/t The Athletic).
In that meeting with the Warriors, White scored 20 points and added seven assists and four rebounds with two steals in 37 minutes. Paul, on the other hand, had 15 points and five assists in 24 minutes of action off the bench.
White has a strong case to win the said award. He is averaging a career-high 19.6 points per game for the Bulls and is also posting career-highs in rebounds (4.7) and assists (5.2) as he takes advantage of his expanded role with the Bulls in part because of the absences of Zach LaVine and Lonzo Ball due to injuries.
“Coby deserves it,” Paul shared about the season White is having with the Bulls. “He’s always been a hard worker. But the way he worked this past summer was different. He’s getting a chance to see the fruits of his labor.”
