As insane as it may sound, the Golden State Warriors came close to pairing LeBron James with Stephen Curry right before the NBA trade deadline. Well, in truth, we don’t really know how far along the Warriors got in terms of actually luring the Los Angeles Lakers superstar to the Bay Area, but the fact that they even attempted to do so is undeniably audacious in itself.
Draymond Green has now shared his thoughts on this botched pairing as the Warriors star also rued the opportunity to be teammates with his former nemesis turned good friend.
Draymond Green Speaks Out on Golden State Warriors’ Failed LeBron James Trade
On a recent podcast appearance, Green admitted that a Steph and LeBron pairing would have been “crazy.” As a matter of fact, the former Defensive Player of the Year is adamant that the Warriors would have no problem winning a title if these two had joined forces:
“I think that team win a championship, no problem,” he declared.
Carmelo Anthony Disputes Draymond Green’s Take
Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony, who is one of the hosts of the 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, was quick to refute Green’s claim. Melo has been teammates with LeBron on the Lakers, and he knows, of all people, that there’s no such thing as a guaranteed championship.
“I don’t think so because guess what — if ‘Bron is going to Golden State, you gotta build another team,” Anthony argued. “… He outta there — Klay (Thompson) is gone. They can’t stay. It’s gonna be them two and (Jonathan) Kuminga… “
While Green clearly didn’t agree with Melo’s argument about the Warriors going all the way, Draymond was on the same page about Jonathan Kuminga being a crucial player on the squad. Green stated that there’s just no way the Warriors are letting Kuminga leave — LeBron or no LeBron.
