The Golden State Warriors took care of business on Sunday night by securing a much-needed win over the Utah Jazz, 118-100. The Dubs did this with Stephen Curry resting too, as the former back-to-back MVP was given a night off to rest and recuperate.
This was just the seventh game Curry was forced to sit out all season long, which by his standards over the past several years, translates to a relatively injury-free campaign.
Golden State Warriors News: Steve Kerr Wary of Stephen Curry’s ‘Wear and Tear’
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr spoke to reporters ahead of Sunday’s contest, and Curry was, of course, one of the main topics of conversation. The four-time NBA champion coach spoke highly of Steph’s durability, even going as far as saying that the GOAT shooter has been “superhuman” this season.
At the same time, however, Kerr revealed one potential pitfall amid Curry’s healthy year. According to the Dubs shot-caller, all these games have been taking a toll on Steph’s 35-year-old body:
“Last four or five years, it’s felt like maybe twice during the year he’s gotten an injury that kept him out for a couple of weeks, and that sort of allowed him to recharge. He’d come back and go crazy,” Kerr said. “This year, it’s a good thing he hasn’t been injured other than two very minor ones. But the end result is that he’s got just a ton of wear and tear on him this year.”
For context, over the past six seasons, the most games Curry has played in a single season is 69 in 2018-19. He’s now already at 71 games played with four games still remaining on the docket.
Speaking of upcoming contests, the Warriors get LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers in their next game on Tuesday. Banged up or not, you can be sure that Curry will be back in the lineup for that marquee showdown.
