There’s no denying that Golden State Warriors veteran Klay Thompson is no longer the superstar he once was. It’s not as if he’s fallen off a cliff or anything, but at this point, it appears that the 34-year-old is nearing the twilight of his career — if he hasn’t entered it already.
Be that as it may, Thompson still remains to be one of the most important players on Golden State’s roster. This is exactly why the Dubs have to be wary of any threat that might emerge in terms of the five-time All-Star’s free agency this summer.
Golden State Warriors Rumors: Orlando Magic Looking to Pry Klay Thompson Away From Dubs
One team that is reportedly keeping a keen eye on Thompson’s situation in Golden State is the Orlando Magic. According to NBA insider Tim Kawakami of The Athletic, the Magic could pose a real threat to the Warriors this summer:
“One of the worst-kept secrets in the league is that Orlando, loaded with young talent but not with shooters, might offer Klay a ton of money next summer,” Kawakami reported.
Thompson appears to be a great fit for Orlando as a veteran addition to their young and very promising core. They’ve already proven that they are a serious threat in the East (they are currently just one game behind the Milwaukee Bucks for the No. 2 seed in the conference), and they should only get better in 2024-25.
For their part, the Warriors will have a significant dilemma on their hands in the offseason if a team like Orlando puts a massive offer on the table for Thompson. Golden State is pretty cash-strapped in terms of the salary cap so even if they want to keep the two-time All-NBA shooting guard in the Bay Area, they ultimately might get priced out of the market.
