Just recently, Rudy Gobert decided to skip Game 2 against the Denver Nuggets for the birth of his son. In turn, Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green questioned the Minnesota Timberwolves center’s decision on the matter.
In the second game of the Western Conference Semifinals, the Timberwolves went home with 106-80 victory over the Nikola Jokic-led Nuggets. Both Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns exploded for 27 points each on more than 60 percent shooting from the field, with the latter grabbing 12 rebounds along the way. Also, Naz Reid and Nickeil Alexander-Walker each had 14 points from the bench to help Minnesota get the dub.
The Nuggets were led by Michael Porter Jr.’s 20 points in 33 minutes. However, both Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray shot the ball poorly in Game 2, leading to their loss. The All-Star center notched 16 points and 16 rebounds, while Denver’s starting point guard only tallied eight points.
The win helped Minnesota put the Nuggets in 0-2 hole, a situation only a few teams have solved in playoff history. It also showcased Edwards’ dominance after his team swept Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns in the first round.
Draymond Green Questions Rudy Gobert’s Absence in Minnesota Timberwolves Game 2 Win Against Denver Nuggets
Minnesota won Game 2 even without Gobert playing. Although the four-time Defensive Player of the Year was praised for his decision, there are some who called him out for doing so. In a video of Green’s podcast posted on YouTube:
Green asked Gobert if he would have made the same decision if Minnesota lost the first game of the series. He added that he won’t take the game for granted as his family would understand it nonetheless as any game will only take a few hours and he’ll have enough time to attend to a situation that Gobert was in. Despite his doubts on the big man’s decision, Green congratulated Gobert for the birth of his son.
It’s apparent that there’s no love lost between the two All-Stars. Both Gobert and Green have been engaged in a long-term feud for years now. The most recent incident between the two was when the Warriors’ forward choked Gobert for a few seconds after their teammates almost got into a scuffle themselves. Fortunately, the Timberwolves managed to get their second win despite not having Gobert around. In any case, the remainder of the series will vindicate either stars when the winner advances to the next round.
