Who better than Stephen Curry to drain the dagger bucket for the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night against the Orlando Magic on the road? The two-time league Most Valuable Player put the Magic to sleep with a huge 3-pointer late in regulation to extend the Warriors’ lead to eight points with just a little over 30 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

You already know what happened next.

The Warriors saw star forward Draymond Green get tossed from the contest in the first quarter after he got called for two technical fouls. That was a painful blow for the Warriors, but they managed to weather Green’s absence the rest of the way, thanks in large part to the big game of Andrew Wiggins. The much-maligned Wiggins produced 23 points on 8/17 shooting while Curry had 17 points. Curry shot poorly in the game, as he went just 6/18 from the field, but he delivered one of the most crucial shots of the contest.

“We found a way to fight it to the end and get a win,” Curry told reporters following the 101-93 win against the Magic, per the Associated Press (via ESPN). “It did start with the defensive effort of being detail-focused, talking, rebounding, and then we were locked in for a good stretch of the game.”

The Warriors needed that win, as a loss would have put them out of the Play-in Tournament picture as the Houston Rockets also won on the same night. At the moment, the Warriors are 10th in the Western Conference standings with a 38-34 record — just a game ahead of the Rockets, who are boasting a 37-35 slate.
