Golden State Warriors news: The San Antonio Spurs logged just their 14th win of the season on Saturday, and they did it with rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama sidelined with an injury. It was the Warriors who handed the Spurs a rare win, 126-113 — in Golden State, no less — which unsurprisingly, prompted a brutally honest post-game assessment from head coach Steve Kerr.
Steve Kerr Calls Out Golden State Warriors After Spurs Loss
To be fair, the Warriors faced off against the Spurs on Saturday without their best player available. Stephen Curry is currently dealing with an ankle injury, but the good news is that he could be back sometime this week.
Despite Curry’s absence, however, Kerr wasn’t taking any excuses from his team, particularly when it came to their lackluster defensive performance against San Antonio:
“I liked the way the game started,” Kerr said (h/t Adam Taylor of Warriors Wire. “…I thought our defense looked really good. That’s why we started the way we did with that lineup. I wanted to have Draymond and Trayce out there together…As the game went on, we had multiple breakdowns. They got to the rim at will…You’ve got to stop something and I thought they got whatever they wanted all night. Tough night for us defensively.”
Keldon Johnson (22 points, 11 rebounds), Jeremy Sochan (20 points, five rebounds), and Malaki Branham (20 points, three triples) were the main culprits for the Spurs, who as Coach Kerr said, pretty much had their way against Golden State.
The Warriors have now lost three out of their last four games and are now barely hanging on to the 10th and final Play-In spot out West.
