Things have not gotten better for Tyrese Haliburton since he laid an egg in the Indiana Pacers‘ 27-point blowout loss to the New Orleans Pelicans back on March 1. Since then, the All-Star point guard has averaged 39.8 percent from the field over the last nine games.
This includes 4-of-14 shooting on Monday in another loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. At this point, it’s safe to say that Haliburton is in the midst of a real slump.
Indiana Pacers Star Tyrese Haliburton Gets Real on Shooting Slump
Speaking after Monday’s loss to the Cavs, Haliburton got painfully honest on his current cold streak. The 24-year-old has admitted that the situation has become increasingly disappointing. The Pacers star also knows that there’s no one else to blame for this slump than himself:
“I play better, we win, so I’m just trying to figure it out right now. Obviously it’s frustrating, I never went through a slump like this in my life,” he said, (h/t Paul Terrazzano Jr. of TalkBasket.net). “But it’s all part of it, figuring it out. It sucks, everybody’s got the answer, but it’s about me figuring it out. So I just gotta be better, and I will be better moving forward. And if I’m not, we got other people who will be prepared to do it. But I gotta be better, that’s on me. I played 32 minutes, more than enough time to do what I do. I just gotta be better, point-blank.”
When asked what he believes has led to this ugly stretch, which has already affected the rest of the squad’s performance, Haliburton pointed to himself again:
“I think it just stems from me getting guys in the right positions, right spots, getting the right shots at the end of the games, just me doing a better job. I think it starts with me, and then it kind of trickles down from there. So, I just gotta be better,” he said.
Haliburton is one of the most dangerous shooters in the game today. He will get out of this slump sooner or later. The law of averages will catch up to him soon enough.
The 6-foot-5 guard will want to get back to his old ways soon, though, with the 38-31 Pacers in the midst of a real dogfight in the East.
