It’s no secret Caitlin Clark is the biggest name in college basketball and about to be the most hyped player in the WNBA because of her accomplishments. Turns out, Arizona head coach John Calipari is a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes star after their recent meeting together.
After building up her case as the best scorer in women’s college basketball for the past three seasons, Clark went off this year in a big way. A couple of months ago, the cIowa Hawkeyes: Caitlin Clark Delivers Lovely Message After Her #22 Is Retired broke Pete Maravich’s old record and became the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer.
Once that record was hers, Clark focused on getting Iowa into the NCAA Tournament. Her journey through the first and second round, Sweet 16, Elite Eight, and Final Four was a masterclass in offense as the Hawkeyes demolished the competition along the way. That is until the faced the South Carolina Gamecocks in the championship round.
In that game, Clark only shot 35 percent from the field and 33 from deep, which left her with 30 points in 40 minutes. Along with the bench unable to get their offense going, the Hawkeyes ultimately fell to South Carolina. Nevertheless, the Iowa star has made her impact on the game right before she goes pro soon.
Iowa Hawkeyes Star Caitlin Clark Receives Ultimate Praise From John Calipari
Just recently, John Calipari resigned from Kentucky and was hired to coach Arkansas’ men’s basketball team. He met Clark at the Wooden Award, and had nothing but great things to say about her.
“Had a chance to meet @CaitlinClark22 at the @WoodenAward ceremony, and I am very impressed. Caitlin has transformed women’s college basketball, but it hasn’t changed who she is and how she treats others. Special person!” Calipari tweeted.
The John R. Wooden award is conferred by the Los Angeles Athletics Club and given to outstanding athletes in men’s and women’s college basketball. This is the second year Clark has received the said award.
With Clark going pro soon, she’s bound to face a lot of competition and adversity along the way. Fortunately, personalities like Calipari are shaping up to be on her side as the future WNBA star’s career progresses.
