Caitlin Clark did all she could for the Iowa Hawkeyes on Sunday as they took on the No. 1 seed South Carolina Gamecocks in the National Championship game. However, not even a 30-point explosion from the greatest scorer in Division I history was enough to carry her team to glory.
In the end, the Gamecocks proved too much for the Hawkeyes, as South Carolina completed an incredible 38-0 season en route to becoming the NCAA Women’s Champions. They took down Clark and Co. in impressive fashion on Sunday, 87-75.
Iowa Hawkeyes News: Caitlin Clark Exits NCAA Stage One Final Time
With 20.2 seconds remaining in the game, Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder decided to pull Clark out of the game. At that point, the Gamecocks already had a 12-point lead, and we all knew that the title had already been settled.
This gave Clark an opportunity to exit the court for one final time as she was welcomed by teammates and the coaching staff on the bench. It was an undeniably heartbreaking moment for the 22-year-old:

Clark was clearly emotional as she embraced her teammates and coaches after playing her final game in the NCAA. The Iowa superstar is now headed to the WNBA after previously declaring for the upcoming draft.
Clark finished Sunday’s loss with a game-high 30 points on 10-of-28 shooting, to go along with eight rebounds, five assists, and five triples. It simply just wasn’t enough.
