Right now, there’s a lot of uncertainty surrounding Paul George’s future with the Los Angeles Clippers. Both sides are standing firm with their position in contract negotiations and at this point, neither seems willing to give in.
It’s not just George who could be on his way out of LA this summer, though, as Russell Westbrook appears to be intent on moving on after completing his first full season with the Clippers.
Los Angeles Clippers News: Russell Westbrook Wants Out
Westbrook, a former MVP winner, has a $4 million player option on his current deal for the upcoming season. If he decides to pick it up, he will remain in LA for at least another year.
According to Clippers insider Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints, however, Westbrook is not interested in running it back:
“League sources have told ClutchPoints that Westbrook is not expected to be in a Clippers uniform next season, with Russell reportedly looking at other options that would include opportunity and playing time. There have also been reports of the Clippers’ interest in point guards Chris Paul and Kyle Lowry, which would reinforce the idea that they’re going to replace him,” Azarly wrote.
Last season, Westbrook averaged a career-low 22.5 minutes per game off the bench for LA. Although he was able to force himself into the Sixth Man of the Year conversation last term, it is clear that Russ wants to play a bigger role next season.
For their part, it seems that the Clippers are also already preparing for Westbrook’s looming exit by looking for a potential veteran replacement.
At this point, it’s very much possible that Westbrook has already played his final game for LA.
