LeBron James kept his foot on the gas on Wednesday night as he helped lead the Los Angeles Lakers to their fifth win in this recently-concluded six-game road trip. This came in the form of a 125-120 victory over the Washington Wizards, with James logging 25 points on 9-of-18 shooting.
Over the last five games, LeBron has been making 63.0 percent of his shots from the floor, which includes Sunday’s shooting clinic against the Brooklyn Nets where he went 9-of-10 from beyond the arc.
Los Angeles Lakers Star LeBron James Vocal on Putting in Work

James was not able to drain a triple on Wednesday against the Wizards, but all in all, it was still an efficient evening from the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. After the game, LeBron was asked what he attributes his efficiency to this season, to which the 20-time All-Star provided a straightforward explanation:
“I’ve been able to get a lot more work on the floor this season because my foot has been a lot better than last year,” he said. “I really couldn’t, on off days or in between games, get much work done because I had to stay off my foot because of the injury last year that took me all the way through to the postseason. So relative to last year, I’m still dealing with it a little bit, but it’s been a lot better than last year. So I’ve been able to actually been a lot more consistent on putting the work in on my shooting.”

That explains a lot. As he said, it’s not as if LeBron has been injury-free this season, but the fact that he’s been able to work on his game much more now than he did last year has paid absolute dividends both for him and the Lakers.

At this point, however, LeBron has to keep it going. LA is currently just 1.5 games outside the sixth seed in the West, which will allow them to bypass the Play-In Tournament. It’s a tall task with five games remaining, but with James at the helm, anything’s possible.
