Despite a monster performance by LeBron James, the Los Angeles Lakers still lost a crucial game against the Golden State Warriors recently. After the game, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer can’t believe how a controversial call led to their loss.
In that particular game, the Warriors got the big 128-121 win over James and the Lakers. Leading the way for Golden State was Stephen Curry’s 31 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
Klay Thompson had a big game from the bench by dropping 26 points on 50 percent shooting from deep while Jonathan Kuminga added 23 points of his own.
On the other hand, James made 40 points, eight rebounds, and nine assists in 37 minutes on the court. D’Angelo Russell had 23 points and 13 assists, while Anthony Davis exited the game after the first quarter due to a left eye contusion.
Los Angeles Lakers Star LeBron James Can’t Believe Controversial Call in Game Against Golden State Warriors
The controversial call occurred as the final two minutes of the game was extended to over 20 minutes due to a number of replay reviews and malfunctions to the shot-clock. With 1:50 left in the game Golden State leading 124-120, Lakers head coach Darwin Ham challenged an out-of-bounds called against Jaxson Hayes.
As the officials were reviewing the play, James’ corner three-pointer made before the out-of-bounds play with 2:07 remaining in the game was deemed invalid. The Lakers won the challenge, but lost points in the process.
Speaking to reporters after the game, the Lakers All-Star shared his thoughts about that controversial call. In an article written by Dave McMenamin for ESPN:
“I’ve never seen that be called before like that — in that particular time. That was kind of weird. … It took some momentum away from us,” James said.
The King added that he didn’t believe his foot was on the line as that corner three-pointer was being shot. Meanwhile, Crew Chief David Guthrie explained that James’ left foot went out of bounds as he began to take a shot and invalidating the points scored can be applied during other replay reviews.
While the Warriors already ended up with the win, the way they won the game remains to be a controversy, especially for James. It remains to be seen whether a more extensive probe will be done or the league will stand by the ruling.
