It’s an open secret that the Los Angeles Lakers want to keep LeBron James. They’re willing to do anything to keep the talented 39-year-old in Purple and Gold, even if that means drafting his son who is far from ready to play in the NBA.
Several voices across the league believe Bronny is far from ready to play in the NBA, but Draymond Green threw his support behind King James’ eldest child. While general opinion is still divided on Bronny’s NBA potential, his father is trying to veer clear of the narrative by putting his influence on where he might end up.
LeBron James wants Bronny to be his own man despite Los Angeles Lakers’ interest in him
While James is still processing what happened to the Lakers over the past two seasons, he’s not shying away from fielding questions that involve his son.
It’s clear to everyone that the Lakers’ interest in drafting Bronny is mainly due to keeping LeBron on the team. Asked about the possibility of playing with his own son, LeBron made his stance clear on the matter:
“I’ve thought about it in the past but at the end of the day, the kid has to do what he wants to do. I don’t even want to say kid no more, the young man will decide what he wants to do and how he wants his career to go.”pic.twitter.com/QnhBcuQLDg https://t.co/IoSjVlteQc

It’s a surprising take that many LeBron fans will find strange as he’s been pretty vocal about his desire to play with his son. It’s not a wild take to assume that one of the biggest reasons for LeBron to still be playing at 39 is his wish to be on the same NBA floor as his son.
Regardless of his reasoning, it’s still impressive that James is still putting up superstar numbers against younger and more athletic defenders. He averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.3 assists in his 21st NBA season, a feat that’s hard to imagine for most fans.
With James being one of the most iconic players in the NBA, it’s clear that Bronny would likely be picked up by an NBA team in the Draft. Whether the younger James turns the opportunity his father provided him into a long and successful career is now up to him.
