The New Orleans Pelicans are fighting tooth and nail to keep their automatic playoff hopes alive. The entire team is clicking on all cylinders as they only lost three of their last ten games.
However, their chances of an automatic playoff berth might be dashed after one of their star players went down with an injury. While the damage wasn’t serious, it might be more than enough to put the fifth-seeded Warriors into the play-in tournament.
Brandon Ingram will be out of the New Orleans Pelicans roster for two weeks
Brandon Ingram was having a great game during their game against the Orlando Magic. However, his horrific injury was so intense that he had to be assisted just to make the team locker room. Without Ingram, the Pelicans eventually came up short despite Zion Williamson’s best efforts.
Plenty of fans were anxious to hear the status of their star forward, hoping that the time away wouldn’t be as long. While the Pelicans released encouraging news on their Twitter/X account, the news still has a lot of impact on their playoff push.
Brandon Ingram underwent an MRI after
hyperextending his left knee during the third quarter of last night’s game against the Orlando Magic. The results of the MRI revealed a left knee bone contusion.
Ingram will be re-evaluated in two weeks
and additional updates will be…— New Orleans Pelicans (@PelicansNBA) March 22, 2024
Assuming that Ingram is fully healthy by the time the two weeks are over, at least seven games would have already gone by. What makes this worse is that they will be playing contenders such as the Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, and Oklahoma City Thunder during that stretch.
To have Ingram, who is averaging 20.9 PPG, 5.1 RPG, and 5.8 APG on 49%/36%/80% shooting splits this season, miss out on such a huge number of games will hurt the team’s chances to keep themselves in the top six.
Pelicans fans will hope Zion and CJ McCollum would be enough to help the team kee their current spot in the playoff picture.
