Every team in the NBA knows how dangerous Devin Booker can become for the Phoenix Suns once he gets the hot hand. His most recent performance against the Phoenix Suns already put him in an elite company of scorers.
However, there’s one interesting storyline that might have contributed to Booker’s incredible scoring night against the Pels. Many of his family made the trip from his hometown in Alabama to see him dominate.
Devin Booker’s family was present when he led the Phoenix Suns with 52 points
Booker was simply unstoppable as he did whatever he wanted against the New Orleans Pelicans to help the Suns cruise to a comfortable 124-111 win. The Pelicans tried making defensive adjustments, but they were simply unable to hold Booker down as he made 19 of his 28 shot attempts. He complemented his scoring performance with three boards, nine assists, and a block.
What’s even more interesting is that he’s had several fifty-point games against New Orleans. He sank another 52 points during the Suns’ last game against the Pels. He also dumped 58 on them on December 18, 2022.
When asked about why he was playing so well against the Pelicans, Booker couldn’t give a straightforward answer.
Booker said he “doesn’t really have an answer” for his success against New Orleans.
“I just feel like I’m playing the same way,” he said. “I mean, the crib is close. I have a lot of family in attendance. I grew up coming here. It’s the first NBA arena I went to. So there’s some history here.”
Kevin Durant, another prolific scorer who took it easy with a cool 20 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals, couldn’t believe what Booker was doing to the Pelicans:
“It was like déjà vu as it was happening,” he said. “You look up, he’s got 20 points in the first quarter. Then what I loved about it, everything was in the flow of the game from the start. Pin downs, catch-and-shoots, cuts to the rim, layups, going through pull-ups. That’s the sign of an otherworldly scorer when you can do it in the flow of the offense like that.”
Zion Williamson dropped 30 points to keep New Orleans in contention, but Booker and the Phoenix Suns were just too much for them again.
