The Phoenix Suns aren’t in a very good place right now. This is after they got humiliated by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round via a clean 4-0 sweep.
As such, it comes as no surprise that questions have been asked about the future of the team. In particular, is it time to blow the Kevin Durant, Devin Booker-led roster up?
Phoenix Suns News: Owner Mat Ishbia Vocal on Running it Back
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Suns team owner Mat Ishbia made the organization’s plan abundantly clear. The 44-year-old billionaire announced that the team’s intention is to run it back with the same group next season:
“Our starting five is coming back, we just need to make some adjustments,” he said (h/t Legion Hoops on Twitter).
While Ishbia did hint at some possible changes within the roster, it is clear that they want to keep their core intact. This means that Durant, Booker, and Bradley Beal are still going to be in a Suns uniform in 2024-25.
Being that he did say that the Suns will have the same starting five next season, this should mean that Grayson Allen and Jusuf Nurkic are also going to be back.
Devin Booker Is Face of the Franchise
Ishbia went on to speak specifically about Booker and how he sees the four-time All-Star as the future of the franchise for the years to come:
“Devin Booker’s the face of the franchise and he’s going to be for the next 10-plus years until he retires,” Ishbia said, via Suns beat reporter Trevor Booth.
Clearly, the Suns remain unquestionably loyal to Devin Booker and they have every intention of moving forward with him at the helm.
