San Antonio Spurs: NFL Legend Drops Wild Victor Wembanyama MVP Prediction

To say that Victor Wembanyama had a stellar rookie campaign in the NBA is a massive understatement. For NFL legend Shannon Sharpe, though, the San Antonio Spurs star is only bound to get better and eventually win MVP sooner than expected.

After making so much noise in last year’s offseason, Wembanyama went first in the 2023 Draft as the Spurs’ top pick over other notable names, such as Scoot Henderson and the Ausar twins. And even though his first few games didn’t stick out, the French phenom quickly adapted and showed everyone what he’s capable of.

Over the course of 71 games during the regular season, the Spurs rookie averaged 21.4 points on 46 percent shooting from the field, 32 percent from beyond the perimeter, and almost 80 percent from the free-throw line. He also led the league in blocks by rejecting 3.6 shots on a nightly basis while making 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.2 steals.

Wembanyama flashed his true potential in a game against the Jalen Brunson-led New York Knicks a couple of months ago. In that contest San Antonio ultimately won, the French rookie posted 40 points, 20 rebounds, and seven assists. Add the fact that he is just playing as a rookie with those numbers, and it makes sense for fans to expect greater things in his future.

Now that the regular season is over, Wemby has been named as this season’s Rookie of the Year, beating Oklahoma City Thunder’s Chet Holmgren in the process. And even though he lost Defensive Player of the Year to Rudy Gobert, the San Antonio star still established himself as a force on that end of the court.

Shannon Sharpe Predicts San Antonio Spurs Star Victor Wembanyama Will Win MVP Within Four Years

After being named ROTY, several takes were given by personalities in the sporting world about Wemby. Among those that made noise was Shannon Sharpe’s MVP prediction about the Spurs star in a video posted on First Take’s official X account.

Wemby’s ability to defend, create plays, score from anywhere, and handle the ball has tantalized NBA fans for the past season. Add more time for him to hone his craft and a quality supporting cast around him and there’s no reason for him not to win MVP, as Sharpe predicted.

Hopefully, the Spurs’ front office can get the right guys to play with Wembanyama. In doing so, the French big man can make the most out of his time in San Antonio and elevating his game to the next level.
