Isaiah Thomas‘ second 10-day contract with the Phoenix Suns is about to come to an end. This only meant that the team had to make a decision on whether or not to retain the services of the two-time All-Star or to release him.
Apparently, the Suns want to keep him on board.
Phoenix Suns News: Isaiah Thomas Set to Sign Rest-of-Season Deal
NBA guru Shams Charania of The Athletic broke the news on Monday night that the Suns have decided to sign the 5-foot-9 guard for the remainder of the season:
“Comeback complete: The Phoenix Suns plan to sign guard Isaiah Thomas for the remainder of the season, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. In his 12th NBA season, Thomas completed two 10-days – providing the Suns backcourt depth, strong leadership and vet presence in locker room,” Shams reported.
Thomas hasn’t made a significant impact on the squad since joining them in March. The 35-year-old has made just four appearances thus far, averaging 1.3 points in 3.5 minutes of action.
As Shams stated in his report, however, the Suns see much more value in Thomas than what he brings to the basketball court. He’s a tested veteran who has been through multiple playoff runs, which makes him a useful postseason commodity for Phoenix.
We don’t expect Thomas to suddenly get a boost in his playing time after this news, but it appears that he will play a significant role for the Suns moving forward, particularly off the court.
