Before the start of the 2023-24 campaign, ESPN analysts Stephen A. Smith and Shannon Sharpe made a bet on how many games Anthony Davis will play for the Los Angeles Lakers. If Anthony Davis played at least 65 games, then Stephen A. Smith has to pay up Shannon Sharpe.
Fast forward to today, and Shannon Sharpe won the bet because Anthony Davis played 76 regular-season games, his highest total in a Los Angeles Lakers uniform. So, Stephen A. Smith will honor their bet by treating the former NFL superstar to an expensive dinner.
“Big bro here and I are going out to dinner tonight because I lost my bet to him, that Anthony Davis wouldn’t play 65 games. I gotta pay up tonight. I gotta pay Shannon, so I’m treating him to dinner,” Stephen A. Smith said on First Take.
“Dry-aged Wagyu. $3,200 a pound,” Shannon Sharpe answered.
It’s hard to blame Stephen A. Smith for betting against Anthony Davis given his injury history, but now it’s safe to say that he won’t be betting against AD in the future.
Anthony Davis and the Los Angeles Lakers look to upset the Denver Nuggets
After beating the New Orleans Pelicans in the play-in tournament, the Los Angeles Lakers secured the seventh seed in the Western Conference, where they’ll meet a familiar foe in the Denver Nuggets in the first round.
The odds are stacked against the Los Angeles Lakers because they haven’t defeated the Denver Nuggets in their last seven meetings dating back to last year’s Western Conference Finals.
Despite this, the Los Angeles Lakers expressed their readiness to take on the defending NBA champions, as Anthony Davis said that they are “not ducking any smoke” which their head coach Darvin Ham echoed.
If the Los Angeles Lakers somehow defeat the Denver Nuggets in the first round, it’ll likely be on the back of a spectacular series by Anthony Davis.
