It’s been a while since the UConn Huskies completely overwhelmed the Purdue Boilermakers in the NCAA National Championship. The way they dismantled Zach Edey and the rest of the Boilermakers show just how well the entire Huskies roster played this season.
With the way the team has played throughout the season, there were murmurs that the entire starting five of Dan Hurley’s team could be selected in the 2024 NBA Draft.
One of these five players made his intentions for his future clear, and it’s something that a good number of Huskies fans will be happy about.
UConn Huskies’ Alex Karaban declares for the 2024 NBA Draft, keeps his eligibility
Alex Karaban was a key contributor to Dan Hurley’s Huskies squad. The redshirt sophomore had a solid-enough season that he felt he was ready to test the waters of the pros.
Field Level Media wrote about Karaban’s declaration of intent to go pro:
“Thank you to my family and friends for all of the countless sacrifices and constant support throughout my career — especially during the ups and downs,” Karaban wrote.
“Thank you (to the Huskies coaching staff) for your belief in me and giving me the opportunity to play at UConn,” he added. “You guys have pushed me not only to be a better player, but also have helped me become a better man. My experience here has exceeded my expectations and I am blessed to be part of back-to-back national championships.”
While he’s putting his name in the bucket for the NBA Draft, he’s not completely leaving Storrs behind. If he feels there isn’t enough interest for him to be confident of his choice, he can return to college and play for one more season as one of the most established players on the Huskies.
Karaban initially joined the UConn Huskies in the 2021-22 season but was redshirted. The decision did wonders for his game as he became one of the more reliable players on Hurley’s roster. Karaban had a solid 2023-24, with season averages of 13.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.5 assists on 49.5% shooting and 37.9% from deep.
