There are many narratives surrounding the Tennessee Volunteers’ win over the St. Peter’s Peacocks in the first round of March Madness.
However, everyone can agree that the most compelling story out of the one-sided beatdown the Volunteers gave was the brothers playing each other on opposing sides of the bench. While it was tough on the family when it came to which son to cheer for, it was a clear celebration of the family’s success.

Zakai and Armoni Zeigler grew up around the game and loved it so much. Since the two ended up in different teams, it was uncertain whether the two would share a basketball game in college.
That was until March Madness slated their schools to face off in the first round of the tournament. It was a fun time for the family, and the elder brother had a bit of fun in the process.
Per The Spun’s Chris Rosvoglou:
“To clear the air, he’s never beat me one-on-one,’’ Zakai said, via the New York Post. “He’s not even close in the series at all. And he’s not even close in his scores. I would say everything he does, I do a little bit better, except for athleticism and height. That’s the only two things that he has better than me, athleticism and height. Everything else, I do better times probably about five.”
Armoni responded with trash talk of his own. The younger brother replied, “I’m more athletic than him and he’s a midget.”
While the older Zeigler brother stands at a diminutive 5’9″, he’s one of the Tennessee Volunteers’ more important contributors. His season averages are impressive at 11.9 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 5.8 assists with a 40%/35%/72% shooting clip.
On the other hand, Armoni has had a decent freshman campaign at St. Peter’s. Standing at a more NBA-ready 6’4″, he has notched 6.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists on 39%/35%/62% shooting splits.
Zakai went off against his brother’s team, scoring 11 points on 3-for-6 shooting, grabbing two rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists. Meanwhile, Armoni contributed hustle despite not putting up any stats in his 16 minutes of play.
Who will the Tennessee Volunteers face next?

The Volunteers will have a tougher time as they will be trading blows with the Texas Longhorns in the second round.
They have multiple players that can easily score on them in Max Abmas and Dylan Disu. Zakai Zeigler and the rest of the Volunteers must step up their game if they want to make it to the latter rounds of the tournament.
