The Texas A&M Aggies bowed out early of the March Madness tournament, so their players are taking their time off as they recover to prepare for another season of collegiate basketball. The team’s seniors are preparing for life outside of the game and are beginning to focus on other things.
However, three of these Aggies took things a bit too far as they got involved in a most recent arrest. One of these players are in especially huge trouble as she is still set to play for the team next season.
Three Texas A&M Aggies got arrested on possession of marijuana charges
Three players who were a part of the Aggies when they lost to Nebraska in the first round of March Madness were arrested on drug charges.
The Spun’s Andrew Gould provided more details:
According to KBTX, Maliyah Johnson and Kyndall Hunter were charged with possession of less than two ounces of marijuana. They were released from jail after each posted $2,000 bail.
Kayla Green was arrested for possessing less than one gram of marijuana and THC. She remained in jail as of Wednesday morning.
College Station police said they responded to calls about people playing loud music and smoking marijuana inside a car. Johnson admitted they had marijuana before officers searched the vehicle.
Brandon Collins, Texas A&M’s women’s basketball information director, told KBTX, that all three players are suspended indefinitely as they gather more information.
Maliyah Johnson and Kayla Green are seniors who didn’t get much playing time last season, though Johnson would have been eligible for another year due to her redshirted junior year. She played considerable minutes during their loss to the Cornhuskers, where she put up four points and two rebounds in 30 minutes of play.
Meanwhile, Kyndall Hunter is a redshirted sophomore who didn’t get to play a single minute of ball this past season. Both her and Johnson are at the risk of losing their scholarships due to this incident, while Green will likely graduate before the school year ends.
This posts a problem for the Texas A&M Aggies as Johnson and Hunter were supposed to become contributors for the team next season. Until the university figures out what actually happened, their futures as student-athletes are up in the air.
