The UConn Huskies have done it. For the first time in nearly two decades, we have back-to-back National Champions after Connecticut took down Zach Edey and the Purdue Boilermakers on Monday, 75-60.
UConn head coach Dan Hurley was absolutely hyped after winning his second title in two years, which prompted a bold declaration from the outspoken 51-year-old shot-caller.
UConn Huskies News: Dan Hurley Puts Entire NCAA on Notice With Bold Statement
As the Huskies were receiving their much-deserved championship trophy, Hurley came out with a rather contentious statement about UConn’s dominance in collegiate basketball. In his mind, the Huskies coach firmly believes that their program has been the gold standard in the NCAA over the last three decades:
“We’ve been running college basketball the last 30 years,” Hurley declared.

You can clearly hear the fans cheering as Hurley made his statement, which made him repeat the declaration in an ever more passionate way.
To be fair, UConn has bagged no less than six championships over the last 25 years so to a certain extent, Hurley does have a point. You can be sure, however, that other programs across the nation aren’t exactly going to agree with Hurley’s claim.
You have to give the coach his crowning moment, though. This squad worked extremely hard to get to where they are right now, and you can’t really say that they don’t deserve their time in the spotlight.
“You can’t even wrap your mind around it,” he said. “You just know how hard this tournament is and what a special group of people… The best group of players you could possibly do it with.”
