The Atlanta Hawks are currently 10th in the Eastern Conference with a 29-35 record. They are barely holding on to the final Play-In spot as they look forward to another potential playoff run this season.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, they received some terrible injury news on Monday. This is after it was reported that 6-foot-7 small forward Saddiq Bey is now done for the season.
Atlanta Hawks Lose Saddiq Bey to Injury
Bey suffered a gruesome injury on Sunday in Atlanta’s 116-103 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans. The 24-year-old’s left knee buckled during a fastbreak attempt and he was in serious pain the moment he hit the deck:
It was ESPN’s NBA guru Adrian Wojnarowski who broke the news on Monday about the extent of Bey’s injury. Unfortunately, it’s the worst-case scenario for Bey and the Hawks:
“ESPN Sources: Atlanta Hawks F Saddiq Bey has suffered a season-ending torn left ACL. MRI revealed injury this morning. Bey — who’ll be a restricted free agent this summer — has averaged 13.7 points and 6.5 rebounds,” Woj reported.
That’s brutal. The Hawks then confirmed the news a few hours later on via their official Twitter account:
An @emoryhealthcare injury update:
Saddiq Bey left last night’s game vs. New Orleans after hyperextending his left knee. An MRI taken earlier today at the Emory Sports Medicine Complex revealed a torn left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Bey, who has started 51 games for Atalanta this season, finished the season with averages of 13.7 points on 41.6 percent shooting, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists, while also connecting on 1.8 triples per game.
As Woj indicated, Bey will be entering free agency this summer, which means that depending on how this scenario plays out, it’s possible that the former 19th overall pick may have already played his final game in a Hawks uniform.
