On Tuesday, the Oklahoma basketball program and head coach Porter Moser again fell victim to the transfer portal. According to OUInsider on Twitter (also known as X), top scorer and junior guard Javian McCollum has submitted paperwork intending to enter the transfer portal.
McCollum is not the first Sooner to leave Norman after the 2023-24 season. Fellow guard Milos Uzan entered the transfer portal earlier this week after posting a team-best 4.4 assists per game while scoring 9.0 points per contest. Additionally, forward John Hugley and guard Otega Oweh have entered the portal. Hugley will head to his third school in three seasons, while Oweh, a former top 100 prospect, will dart after an uber-effective 11.4 points per game on 49% from the field.
Javian McCollum: Leaving Oklahoma Basketball After One Season
Javian McCollum will enter the transfer portal, leaving the Oklahoma Sooners with just one of their top-five scorers from the year prior (Jalon Moore). McCollum spent his first two college seasons with the Siena Saints, scoring 15.9 points per game during the 2022-23 season en route to All-MAAC honors. The Florida native entered the transfer portal following a standout campaign, eventually landing with the Oklahoma basketball program and head coach Porter Moser.

McCollum scored a team-best 13.3 points per game while snagging nearly three rebounds per contest. He also dished out 3.4 assists per game. McCollum finished the season shooting 40% from the field and 31% from deep on a team-high 5.7 attempts from beyond the arc. However, he shot 94% from the free throw line, the best percentage in the Big 12. Only DJ Davis from Butler shot a better percentage from the line. McCollum will have plenty of suitors once his transfer becomes official.
Oklahoma Basketball: Rebuilding for 2024-25 Season
After narrowly missing out on the NCAA Tournament, the Sooners have lost most of their scoring output to the transfer portal. Starters Javian McCollum, Milos Uzan, and Otega Oweh have entered the transfer portal, while forward Sam Godwin could opt not to use his COVID season. Head coach Porter Moser will need to do as much as possible to keep forward Jalon Moore on the roster. The Georgia Tech transfer averaged 11.2 points per game on 52% shooting. He also snagged 6.7 rebounds per game.
The Sooners are also in the running for five-star prospect and McDonald’s All-American Liam McNeeley. He holds offers from Oklahoma, Alabama, Texas, and Kansas.
