Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic finished third in the 2023-24 NBA MVP voting, with the Michael Jordan Trophy going to Denver Nuggets big man Nikola Jokic. That was not much of a surprise even though many others would argue that the winner should have been Doncic or Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, who finished third and second in the voting, respectively.
Speaking of the Mavericks, Kyrie Irving did not get any votes for the MVP award this season. That’s understandable as he isn’t even the best guy on the Mavs roster, but the fact that he did not get a single MVP vote means the continuation of a shocking Kyrie Irving trend.

A REMINDER
Kyrie Irving holds the NBA record for most All-Stars played without ever receiving a vote for MVP.
Can Dallas Mavericks Star Kyrie Irving Get an MVP Vote Before he Leaves the NBA?
Irving has been an NBA All-Star eight times, most recently in 2023. Unlike SGA and Doncic, he’s also got an NBA ring, having won one with LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers back in 2016. He is still a spectacular player, but at 32 years old and playing alongside another high-usage player like Doncic, it’s difficult to see a way for him to win an MVP. But a vote, at least, is still very much possible for the former No. 1 overall pick.
This season, Irving averaged 25.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.2 assists, while shooting nearly 50 percent from the field and over 41 percent from behind the arc.
