The Milwaukee Bucks are set to secure guard Patrick Beverly from the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for guard Cam Payne and a second-round pick. Beverley averages 6.3 points, 3.1 assists and 3.1 rebounds on the season, but he wasn’t traded because of his jump shot or passing ability.
Defense Wins Championships
After the Bucks parted ways with Jrue Holiday, it left a big hole defensively. Holiday made the All-Defensive Team every year he played in Milwaukee and was a key piece of the 2021 championship team. With Damien Lillard, the Bucks do score five more points per game, but they also give up six more points per game.
Dame and Malik Beasley are both great shooters and floor spacers. Neither are considered strong defenders though. Beverly can come in as a backup point or start along side Dame to add another defensive presence to the lineup.
Bucks Favorites For The East?
Does this trade make Milwaukee favorites to win the East? Well, it’s still too early to tell. Prior to the season, a lot of people had the Bucks taking the East following the acquisition of Dame. Now, a team with a new coach who started 1-4 in his first five games has a lot of concerns.
This trade alone won’t fix every problem in Milwaukee. However, Beverley does give this team something that it was missing. Someone who is dedicated to stopping, or at least annoying, the best ball handler on the opposing team. His role with this team will be a lot greater than the one they had for Payne.
