Iowa Hawkeyes star Caitlin Clark is just as excited as everyone else after booking a ticket to the Elite Eight where they will face Angel Reese and the LSU Tigers.
The Iowa-LSU game will be a rematch of last year’s NCAA Tournament women’s national championship, and sure enough, Clark and Co. will be motivated to avenge their loss.
Caitlin Clark Speaks Out on Iowa Hawkeyes vs. LSU Tigers Rematch
After fueling the Hawkeyes’ dominant win over the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday, Clark was asked in her walkoff interview about her thoughts on their Elite Eight match-up against the Tigers.
As college hoops fans know, the Hawkeyes and Tigers met in last year’s women’s national championship. LSU came out victorious, leaving no doubt about their title credentials with a massive 102-85 victory.
Clark, for her part, shared her excitement for the showdown and gave LSU the respect they deserve for helping elevate women’s basketball.
“It’s so good for women’s basketball. To be honest I watched a lot of LSU games, and what they’re doing for women’s basketball and the way their fans support them is tremendous,” Clark said of LSU, per TSN.
“It’s been fun to watch, and they’ve had a great season, so I know it’s going to be a great game. Both teams are gonna be ready to go. And it’s just gonna be great for our game, and you know, we couldn’t be more excited.”
Iowa and LSU have definitely created one of the most fearsome rivalries in college basketball today, and after everything that happened the last time they met in the NCAA Tournament, it’s not surprising why a lot of people are stoked about the match-up.
Fans Hyped Up Over Iowa Hawkeyes vs. LSU Tigers, Caitlin Clark vs. Angel Reese
The LSU Tigers booked their Elite Eight ticket a bit earlier after shocking the higher-seeded UCLA in their Sweet 16 showdown. And so after the Iowa Hawkeyes took care of business against Colorado, fans quickly took to social media to express their excitement for their upcoming meeting.
The Tigers, headlined by Angel Reese, and the Hawkeyes, led by Caitlin Clark, are undoubtedly the most popular teams in the NCAA Tournament. And with their history, it’s not surprising why plenty of fans have the match-up booked since March Madness started.
“Iowa/LSU will be the most watched NCAA game ever. Mark my words,” Los Angeles Sparks star Lexie Brown wrote. A hoops fan echoed the same sentiment, saying: “Rest in peace to whatever viewership and ratings records exist in college basketball. LSU vs Iowa on Monday will make sure you don’t exist.”
“THE REMATCH IS GOING DOWN MONDAY‼️ LSU VS IOWA. WE ARE LITTTTT,” another supported added.
Complex Sports wrote, “The matchup everybody wants to see! Angel Reese and LSU vs. Caitlin Clark and Iowa in the Elite Eight.”
Indeed, Monday couldn’t come any sooner.
