Grant Williams came under scrutiny when Mike Gorman, a long-time play-by-play announcer of the Boston Celtics called him “annoying” and a “bad locker room guy” recently. Because of this, the Charlotte Hornets forward recently responded about it.
“You can’t control what other people say about you or what other people do around you,” said Williams in his exclusive interview with Rod Boone from The Charlotte Observer.
“All you can do is focus on what you are really involved with at the moment. And my goal right now is to just continue to grow this bond with this team, continue to grow the Hornets franchise in general, and continue to impact winning,” he added.
After transferring to the Dallas Mavericks last summer, Grant Williams was traded to the Charlotte Hornets due to a reportedly soured relationship with Luka Doncic. However, former Boston Celtics teammate Jayson Tatum has leaped to his defense, saying that Williams was a great teammate during their time together.
Grant Williams continues to stay in touch with his former teammates while playing for the Charlotte Hornets
After Jayson Tatum said what he had to say about Williams, Jaylen Brown reposted what Tatum said on his X (formerly known as Twitter) account. So, Grant Williams gave a huge shoutout to his former Boston Celtics teammates after they came to his defense amidst Mike Gorman’s comments.
“Yeah, that meant the world,” Williams said. “And honestly, I didn’t even ask him (to weigh in). So, that’s why it was even cooler, and I had to thank him (Tatum) afterward because that’s my dog for life. And all of those guys in Boston are.”
“I talk to those guys more than most in my whole career. (Derrick White), Payton (Prichard), Sam (Hauser), Al (Horford) – those guys have been huge throughout my career and the time I spent there in Boston,” he added.
In his 18 games so far with the Charlotte Hornets, Grant Williams has posted career-high averages in points (13.6), rebounds (5.1), and assists (2.2) while shooting 48.6 percent from the field.
