Luka Doncic has been on a tear recently by setting a number of records during the past few weeks. In turn, Dallas Mavericks big man Daniel Gafford offered a witty advice for opposing squads on how to stop the All-Star guard from scoring via pick-and-roll.
Just recently, Doncic recorded his seventh consecutive 20-point triple-double, the longest in league history, in a win against the Chicago Bulls. Even though his streak of getting 30 and 35-point triples has ended, the Mavericks star still managed to get the said record.
In that game, Dallas came out on top of the Bulls with a score of 127-92. Doncic tallied 27 points, 12 rebounds, and 14 assists in 33 minutes on the court. Meanwhile, Gafford, the Mavericks’ latest acquisition, had 20 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks.
So far, the addition of Gafford has proved to be beneficial for Doncic and the Mavs. Using his size, athleticism, and speed, the Slovenian All-Star has found an able partner in pulling off the pick-and-roll to great effect.
Dallas Mavericks’ Daniel Gafford Drops Witty Take On How To Stop Him and Luka Doncic’s Pick-and-Roll
As seen in recent games, the partnership between Doncic and Gafford seems to be working well. The latter, though, has a witty piece of advice for defenders looking to stop the pair. In a post by Cody Westerlund on X:
“How would you stop a Luka Doncic pick-and-roll? Daniel Gafford: “Just pray,” Westerlund shared.
While Gafford’s response can be taken as a cheeky one, his time playing with Doncic on the court is proof enough that their pick-and-roll does produce results for the pair. The 6’10” center’s efficiency has improved from his time with the Washington Wizards before being acquired by Dallas.
With the playoffs looming close, opposing squads will have to do their homework when facing Doncic. For sure, they’ll be facing a potent pick-and-roll from the All-Star guard and Gafford pretty soon.
