Former Boston Celtics star Paul Pierce never got to play against Dallas Mavericks golden boy Luka Doncic. Pierce retired from the game before Doncic arrived in the NBA, but he didn’t need to go head-to-head against Doncic to realize the immense talent of the Slovenian.
Paul Pierce is blown away by Dallas Mavericks alpha Luka Doncic
Ahead of Thursday’s Game 5 of the 2024 Western Conference finals between the Mavericks and the Minnesota Timberwolves, Pierce said during an episode of All the Smoke Productions that he’s even terrified by Doncic’s basketball powers.
“Luka [Doncic] scares the living hell out of me… When we saw him live… The way he controls the game when you’re actually there… It was like goddamn.”

Paul Pierce was baffled when he saw Luka live for the first time 😅

That was some high praise from Pierce, considering that he’s a 10-time All-Star and a former NBA Finals MVP himself. But at this point in Doncic’s career, everyone’s saying the same thing: that Doncic is a hell of a basketball player who can take over any game against any opponent on any type of pressure.
Can Doncic lead the Mavs to an NBA championship against the Boston Celtics?
Speaking of pressure, the question now for Doncic is whether he has what it takes to steer the Mavericks to a championship this year. The Mavs are just four wins away from winning the franchise’s second NBA title. That is going to be easier said than done with the Boston Celtics in between Dallas and the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
Nevertheless, Dallas will go as far as Doncic takes them.
