For the longest time, ex-Denver Nuggets coach George Karl has been beefing with All-Star Carmelo Anthony because of several incidents during their time together with the franchise. But just recently, the former has taken things to another level, courtesy of an April Fools’ prank he posted on social media.
One of the earliest incidents that sparked the beef between Anthony and Karl was when the latter joined the organization and spoke to the former. From there, the head coach mentioned the Nuggets’ All-Star as overrated and his game was similar to Detlef Schrempf.
Since that moment, Anthony did his best to stay quiet and play his role as Denver’s number one option. The duo achieved moderate success in the seven years they played together. The peak, of course, was when the Nuggets reached the Western Conference Finals in 2009, only to lose to a Los Angeles Lakers team led by the late Kobe Bryant.
After that season, Denver traded Anthony to the New York Knicks for a massive package composed of role players and draft picks. Karl, on the other hand, spent two more seasons coaching the Nuggets after Anthony moved to the Big Apple.
Former Denver Nuggets Coach George Karl Jokes About Making Peace with Carmelo Anthony
Just recently, Karl posted a photo of a young Carmelo Anthony beside Denver Nuggets president Josh Kroenke. According to the former NBA coach, he has quashed his beef with the All-Star in a post on his official X account:
Good news! Josh, Melo and I have spoken and we will be getting together this month to hash things out. It’s been long enough and it’s time to move forward!!
More soon 👍👍 pic.twitter.com/ctgvWGiGF3
— George Karl (@CoachKarl22) April 1, 2024
While the tweet looked promising and hopeful for NBA fans, the date of the posting has led to the debunking of Karl’s message. As it stands, this is his idea of an April Fools’ prank for those who follow him or Anthony.
The former Denver Nuggets and New York Knicks star hasn’t responded yet to Anthony’s April Fools’ Day post. In any case, the beef between these two won’t end anytime soon.
